Project
The acclaimed photographer Heinz Troll chose us to redesign his portfolio website. We aimed to produce a result that aligns with the photographer's unique vision and his minimal and elegant aesthetics. The photographic element is in centre stage, delivering its characteristic intensity and emotion.
Design
On a design level we created an asymmetric layout system that we combined with bold typography, aiming for a modern magazine feel. We allowed the photographer to create each project's presentation line by line, each time choosing the appropriate layout components to serve the visual narrative he wants to transmit.
Technology
We wanted to introduce page transition effects in order to provide visitors with a polished experience. After analysing several alternatives, from JavaScript libraries to front-end frameworks, we settled on Barba.js to effectively configure the page transitions. By integrating Barba with Drupal's twig-based template engine, we could leverage all of Drupal's goodies on web standards and accessibility while keeping the implementation cost low (in comparison to including a full framework).
